Imsanity is a WordPress plugin that automatically resizes insanely huge image uploads down to a more reasonable size. The plugin is configurable with a max width and height for images depending on where they were uploaded (pages, posts, media library, theme images). Whenever a contributor uploads an image that is larger than the allowed size, Imsanity will quietly scale it down to the max size automatically.
Imsanity includes a “bulk resize” feature that allows you to selectively resize existing images on your server. Imsanity only affects images that are uploaded after you install the plugin, but with the bulk resize feature you can now safely clean up previously uploaded images.
This is the perfect plugin for blogs that do not require hi-resolution original images to be stored and/or the contributors don’t want (or understand how) to scale images before uploading. In most cases contributors will have no idea that their images are being scaled.
Imsanity can be installed directly within WordPress by navigating to Plugins -> Add New and searching for “Imsanity.” Otherwise you can download and install manually by clicking the download link to the right:
Imsanity is free! Do you think it’s an insanely awesome plugin?! If so, please rate Imsanity with 5 stars on the WordPress plugin directory. It’s just a single-click for you but it helps to give Imsanity more exposure.
Imsanity is a simple plugin that doesn’t require much instruction. On the Imsanity settings page you can configure the maximum height/width for uploaded images. When the plugin is enabled, any uploaded image that is larger than than the maximum will be scaled (resized) automatically.
